In a recent interview with Larry Ryan at the Independent, Iggy expressed interest in working with David Bowie sometime in the future. When asked by Ryan “You reunited with the founding members of the Stooges when recording Skull Ring, do you think you will ever reunite with David Bowie to make any new music?” Iggy answered, “You never know. The way etiquette in the rock world works is that the larger giant approaches the smaller giant so that would be entirely out of my curfew.” So……..hey Bowie! Hint hint nudge nudge! You know every fan will buy a new collaboration.

Funny about that…I chanced to watch the “Punk” episode of the Time-Life “History Of Rock ‘n’ Roll” the other day (on VH1 Classic–I guess that dates me) and they stated flatly that “Punk (the idea of pure, authentic rock ‘n’ roll experience reacting against a decade of increasing studio trickery) started with Iggy Pop.” To prove this thesis they showed a couple of clips of “The Dinah Shore Show” from I’d say 1977–and there’s David Bowie sharing the couch with Ms. Shore and Mr. Pop (must have been about the same time as he made “Heroes” as he’s wearing the same leather jacket he wore on the cover photo). Having a very good time, too, looks like. Time-Life was obviously not screening their footage for irony.
Haha! I love it. I’ve seen that episode as well. Somewhere on the cutting room floor must be the rest of that sentence…”And one of Iggy Pop’s biggest supporters and closest friends is David Bowie, leading one to draw the conclusion that the Punk Movement owes a couple of roots to Bowie.”
Mr. Authenticity.
I think it would be really really cool !!! With the state of the music world, well generally at least…. a new release from david & Iggy would really spark a creative burst of energy !!!! That is really needed !!!!
